Novak Djokovic lost the first set and had to fight to the end to dismiss Denis Shapovalov and qualify Serbia for the semifinals of the ATP Cup.

The world No. 2 suffered in the dampness of Sydney against the young Canadian of 20 years, to win 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7/4).

In the last set, he was forced to tie-break while serving for the game and leading 30-0.

"It's the tightest match I have ever played against Denis. It was so close that it could have ended differently without problems," said Djokovic.

Quite the opposite of his teammate Dusan Lajovic, who previously strangled Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 6-2.

The Serbs will face Russia in the semi-finals against Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov, undefeated in the team competition.
