The president of the association, Jassem Hamid Ghanem, told «Emirates Today» that the association decided to submit a recommendation to Umm Al Quwain municipality in order to put a fence around the port of the field mooring, install gates and surveillance cameras, and limit the entry of the port to the licensed fishermen, after the association detected that visitors The port is a fan of fishing with a hook, and some Asian workers working on fishing boats in the wharf by dumping fishing waste, nets, bags and plastic cups in the port and the sea, causing pollution to the environment, and damaging the engines of the fishermen.

He explained that the port is witnessing a great congestion on Friday, due to the large number of visitors from outside the emirate fishing in a hook method, or what is known as a thread, as it is an open port for all, and is not subject to any control procedures, adding that the association has monitored many negative practices of the port's goers, such as Theft of fishing gear from the fishermen's boats, tampering with their tools, in addition to dumping their waste from cigarettes, food remains, bags and plastic cups in the port and between the rocks, without regard to the general cleanliness of the place.

Ghanem added that the association noted that some Asians working on fishing boats in the port, dumped fishing waste from nets, plastic bags and rotten fish in the sea, and on the ground, during the loading and unloading of fishing equipment, which causes environmental pollution to the place, indicating that the citizen fishermen They attributed the responsibility for environmental violations and theft incidents to the absence of supervision.

He pointed out that the association is in coordination with the Umm Al Quwain municipality in order to deploy monitors at the port to control violators of environmental standards, and to limit the entry of non-fishers licensed to the port, in addition to installing surveillance cameras to control any incidents of theft from fishermen boats, adding that the port is considered a civilized destination For the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, its cleanliness must be maintained by applying appropriate procedures to control violators and those not committed to public cleanliness.

Awareness campaign

The president of the Umm Al Quwain Fishermen Association, Jassim Hameed Ghanem, stated that the association launched a campaign two days ago to raise awareness for all fishermen of the importance of maintaining public cleanliness, noting that text messages were sent on the phones of fishermen, urging them to compel their Asian workers not to throw fishing waste in the port And dumping them in the designated containers that the association put in the port during the last period.
