Today, the YH authority announced which vocational college education will be granted start-up in 2020. In Västerbotten, 19 of the 30 programs that applied for a permit have been granted permission to start.

Among other things, it is about engineering and engineering courses.

"All time high"

Stina Johansson, project coordinator at Region Västerbotten, calls it a grand slam for Västerbotten.

- It can't be more fun news. In the past, we have had a hard time getting applications together and getting them granted, this year we have worked really hard and 30 applications are all time high.

For 2018, six out of ten applications were granted.

Business is backing up

The YH authority's grants are determined based on the needs of working life. For each granted application, 20-25 companies have backed up with promises of jobs and internships, says Stina Johansson.

- The fact that the industry is doing so well has a big impact, such as Northvolt. There is a huge shortage of technicians and engineers. After all, the healthcare sector also screams for people, and many in administration are also needed.
