The custody of the companion of the author of the attack on Villejuif (Val-de-Marne), arrested on Tuesday, was lifted Wednesday morning, and the young woman should be hospitalized automatically, AFP learned judicial sources and close to the case.

She had been arrested Tuesday noon at her home in Palaiseau (Essonne) and placed in police custody for "association of terrorist criminals", four days after the knife attack carried out by the man with whom she planned to marry religiously. Both had converted to Islam in 2017 for him and early 2019 for her, according to his statements.

"Psychologically fragile"

Nathan C., 22, suffering from psychiatric problems, was killed by law enforcement on Friday after assaulting several people with a knife in a park in Villejuif, south of Paris, killing a passerby and wounding two women.

After her death, her partner had threatened to attack the police so that they would kill her, according to a source close to the file. His arrest was decided on the basis of wiretapping, according to a source close to the investigation. The young woman is "psychologically fragile", assured this source, confirming a "strong dominant suicidal" in his remarks.

The attacker had changed his religion several times

After the lifting of his custody, it was envisaged in the short term a measure of hospitalization at the request of a third party, an administrative procedure, specified for his part the source close to the file.

Described by his family as "intellectually brilliant", Nathan C. was, for his part, subject to psychiatric treatment "since the age of 5 years". He had been hospitalized several times and had left a facility last May before stopping his treatment in June.

Before converting to Islam, he had changed his religion several times, according to a source close to the investigation, who also indicated that an imam had recently refused to celebrate the religious marriage of Nathan C. and his companion.
