“In light of recent events in the Middle East, EASA contacted the national aviation authorities of the European Union to recommend avoiding commercial flights over Iraqi airspace as a precaution,” RIA Novosti quoted agency spokeswoman Janet Northcott as saying.

According to her, some EU countries have already reported this to their airlines and "several airlines have responded to the risk by adjusting their routes."

It is noted that in parallel EASA is working with the European Commission and the national authorities of the EU countries "to fully assess the situation in order to determine the measures necessary to ensure aviation safety in the region."

Earlier, as the Fifth Channel reported, Aeroflot announced the development of alternative flight routes after Rosaviation’s recommendations to Russian airlines not to use airspace over Iran and Iraq.

On the night of January 8, Iran attacked two US bases in Iraq, firing dozens of missiles.

Later, the Boeing 737 of the Ukrainian airline crashed shortly after departure from the airport in Tehran, 177 people were on board, no one survived.
