It is the bottling of Hjälmaren, which has had high water levels for some time, which is the cause of the large flows in the Eskilstuna river. In mid-December, SMHI issued a Class 1 warning that there is a risk of minor flooding.
According to Gustav Carlsson, on-call hydrologist at SMHI, the forecast currently looks stable.
- There does not appear to be any really heavy rain that can raise the helmet's water surface. Gradually it will get better, but it is not noticeable in the Eskilstuna river right now because the vintage from Hjälmaren is still high, he says.
