Corentin Moutet offered the scalp of the Canadian Milos Raonic, ex-world N.3 and Wimbledon finalist in 2016, in two sets (7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/4)) to access Wednesday at the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Doha.

The young Frenchman (20 years old, 81st in the world) knew how to remain solid in the face of the tough service of the Canadian, currently ranked 32nd in the world, who hit 14 aces.

Moutet, who will face Spain's Fernando Verdasco for a place in the semi-finals, is the second Frenchman to cross the course of the second round, after Pierre-Hugues Herbert qualified earlier by bluntly dominating the Serbian Laslo Djere (6- 1, 6-3).

In his first game of the season on the circuit, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga fell against another Serb, Miomir Kecmanovic in two sets (7-6 (11/9), 6-1).
