Russia and Great Britain won their ticket for the quarter-finals of the ATP Cup on Tuesday, unlike Germany, which left the group stage after the underperformance of its leader, Alexander Zverev.
Full box for the Russians: by defeating Casper Ruud and Viktor Durasovic respectively, Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov won their third duel in a row, propelling their team to the quarters.
Impressive, Medvedev, 5th in the world, struck 34 winning strokes and 13 aces to rule out the young but tough Norwegian wolf, who nevertheless fell from two other members of the top 10 in his previous meetings (Isner and Fognini).
Conversely, Zverev has completely missed out on the competition. After his defeats against Australian Alex de Minaur and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the world number 7 lost Tuesday in just over an hour against Canadian Denis Shapovalov. The German giant was notably betrayed by his service throughout the competition, with notably no less than 31 double faults. Something to worry about within 15 days of the start of the Australian Open.
In group C, Great Britain won their qualification by beating Moldova 3-0, and also thanks to Belgium's victory over Bulgaria (2-1) which allowed the English to secure first place .
In the quarterfinals, they will face Australia, already qualified since Sunday, but which offered a prestigious victory Tuesday, seeing Nick Kyrgios beat the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, world number 6, at the end of a match particularly tight.
