The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella wrote it on the 223th anniversary of the flag, recalling that the Tricolor "represents the emblem of the values ​​of the Fundamental Charter such as democracy, respect for human rights, solidarity and social justice".

"Article 12 of the Constitution identifies - the Head of State recalls - the official banner of the Republic in the Tricolor. It represents the emblem of the values ​​of the Fundamental Charter such as democracy, respect for human rights, solidarity and social justice. of Italy, of its people and of the Italian spirit in the world, is an element that distinguishes us in every place and in every area, from the peacekeeping missions of our Armed Forces to diplomatic seats abroad, from sports competitions to artistic expressions ".

It, says Mattarella, "embodies the feelings of unity and cohesion, represents our values ​​and national identity and constitutes an ideal link between the different generations and between all Italians or children of Italians residing abroad. It is an essential heritage which stimulates and urges us to continue, with renewed commitment and on the basis of common roots, our path characterized by innovation, progress, respect and well-being ".
