In Guinea, a new demonstration called the "ultimatum march" took place without incident, this Monday, January 6, against the draft reform of the Constitution which could pave the way for a possible third term of President Alpha Condé.

For the seventh time since the movement began in mid-October, the streets of Conakry have been colored red at the call of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), which brings together most of civil society and political opposition.

After nearly three months of contestation , the opponents of the draft new Constitution, fewer in number than in the early hours, plan to change their strategy. This march, they say, will be the last of its kind.

The march of the ultimatum is because we have walked a lot in this country to tell Mr. Alpha Condé that we do not want his Constitution, a tailor-made Constitution that we do not want. We demand the release of Elie Kamano, without conditions. We will no longer accept being cloistered on an itinerary. We are going to go out across the country to express our rage, ”said Mamadou Diallo, FNDC activist.

The singer and politician Elie Kamano, member of the FNDC, has been detained since January 2 in the city of Guéckédou, in Forest Guinea where a concert was to be held, an " attempt of intimidation ", according to his supporters who remain determined to stand make it heard.

The planned demonstration in Kindia was finally canceled, due to the visit of the Head of State, but the social situation remains tense with a notice of teachers' strike on Thursday January 9, and daily demonstrations announced from mid- January.

We will not back down. Until they understand, the people will walk and we will continue to walk.
