French police shot and wounded a man who rushed toward a group of policemen on Sunday, shouting in the city of Metz, local officials said.

The incident came two days after an attack by a man with a knife in the Villejuif region near Paris, killing one person and wounding two before being shot dead by the police.

The Metz prosecutor's office said that he was in contact with the Prosecution Office of the Prosecution Office about the incident, while Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said he was closely following the situation.

"I salute the quick thinking of the police force ... who intervened to arrest this person," Castaner wrote on Twitter. An investigation has been launched to determine the motive and the circumstances behind this work. ”

The Metz prosecutor's office said the suspect was shot in the thigh and was taken away.

He added that this person, whose name has not been released, is on an official list of persons subject to security surveillance because of their links to militant groups.

The gunman was inside a shop in the neighborhood of "Burnie", then he came out wearing a jilbab, carrying a knife in his hand and yelling at the police patrol.

Metz praised the quick reaction of the security men who fired four bullets, and said that the intervention was documented by the surveillance cameras installed in the place.
