by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 05 January 2020An American soldier and two contractors (two civil contractors) of the United States were killed during an attack by Somali Islamist militiamen from Al Shabaab at the 'Camp Simba' base in Manda Bay, in Lamu County , in South East Kenya near the border with Somalia. The military base is used by both US and Kenyan forces. The United States Africa Command reported.

US defense sources also reported that two other U.S. military personnel were injured in the attack. The affected soldiers "are stable and have been relocated".

There would be at least four terrorists killed during operations to repel the attack that started against Manda's airstrip in Lamu. Runway from where terrorists tried to penetrate the military base. The military camp is located next to the airstrip and is home to soldiers from many countries including the United States and Kenya.

Al Shabaab claiming the assault specified: "An elite group of soldiers of the 'Martirdom Brigade' of Harakat Al Shabaab Al Mujahideen launched a daring dawn raid on an American naval base known as 'Camp Simba' in Lamu County "The base is home to hundreds of American health workers and Kenyan soldiers and serves as one of the many bases for the American crusade against Islam in the region." This according to what reported by the New York Times.

Also according to Al Shabaab terrorists, there would have been losses between troops, planes and military vehicles that would have been destroyed.
