"The lack of awareness is one of the main reasons for the catastrophic consequences of some fires, especially those that end in deaths as a result of inhaling smoke resulting from fires," said the fire expert at the criminal laboratory in the Sharjah Police, Colonel Adel Al-Mazmi, referring to a number of fires that occurred in Sharjah during 2019, due to poorly made electric chargers and smart baby toys.
He indicated that there are people who act in wrong ways who are indifferent to what might happen if they leave the chargers in the electricity without cutting off the electrical current from them, especially if they are poorly manufactured or their quality does not conform to the necessary standards and specifications, and they are cheap, which makes the house vulnerable to short circuit and ignition, Stressing the need not to connect chargers continuously with electricity, especially at bedtime, because the mere inhalation of smoke after the wires flared during the sleep of individuals leads to suffocation and death.
Al Mazmi pointed out that there is a great cooperation in spreading awareness in this field in cooperation with the competent authorities in the emirate, pointing out the importance of not purchasing bad types of electrical wires from outlets, connections and stores, as they have become one of the most important causes of repeated home fires in Sharjah, pointing to fatal errors, Such as putting flammable items under air conditioners, and heat sources in general, and leaving electronic games connected to electricity throughout the night or day without supervision.
And that the criminal laboratory in Sharjah dealt with many household fires during the past year, which were caused by toys and electric chargers, and resulted in light injuries and suffocation, including for children and infants, due to inhaling smoke resulting from fires, without deaths.
He indicated that among the accidents, a fire broke out in an apartment in one of the residential areas, as a result of a gradual rise in the temperature of the electrical subscriber connections, to a degree sufficient to ignite and burn insulating materials and the occurrence of a fire, indicating that the owners of the apartment connected more than one electrical cable to the same electrical outlet, what Caused a large electrical load that led to ignition, and the spread of fire in the apartment.
And he showed that a second fire was caused by children’s toys, as the owners of the apartment in which the fire broke out left him on the charger for a long time, which led to a gradual rise in the temperature of the dry battery, and its connections to the children's toys Hoover Board (scooter), to a degree sufficient for melting them. And igniting insulation materials and the occurrence of fire, as the fire spread in the house, which led to bottlenecks, but the speed of response by the competent authorities prevented injuries and deaths.
He said that a third fire was in the house of one of the residents due to igniting the refrigeration air conditioner for a long time without putting it on automatic mode or extinguishing it, which caused him to cause excessive loads as a result of a gradual rise in the temperature of the metal circuit and electrical connections of the internal unit of the air conditioner, to a degree sufficient for melting and combustion Insulated covers and fire.
He indicated that among the fires was the burning of a company in the emirate due to an electrical defect, which led to an increase in the temperature of the metal connections of the electrical circuits in its air conditioners, which caused a short circuit that led to the ignition and melting of the wires.
