The Director of Projects Planning Department at the Ministry, Eng. Youssef Abdullah, told «Emirates Today»: “The street development work will gradually include the axis of Etihad Street E11, as some of its parts have been completed in Umm Al Quwain and Ajman, and the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Mosque is under development. In the Emirate of Ajman within the same axis, and aims in 2020 to start the development of the street between the two intersections of Al Nahda between the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah and the intersection of adults, and it is expected to start the project during the second half of this year ».

He pointed out that the development operations will include raising the absorptive capacity of the road, by adding lanes, service roads and parking on both sides of the road, to organize traffic and raise traffic safety rates, in addition to developing the intersections of Al-Nahda and the adult caliphs, raising their efficiency and establishing directed bridges on the street, adding that it is expected to improve the movement Traffic and increase the capacity, thus reducing the travel time and reducing traffic congestion, after completing the development that is expected to be completed in the beginning of 2022.

He stated that the Ministry has studied and designed alternative traffic diversions and paths, for use during the street development period, and coordination is underway with the relevant service agencies to obtain and approve approvals to mitigate the impact of street development operations on road users and the distribution of traffic. He added: "The project will be offered as a tender, and the cost will be revealed once the works are awarded," while the estimated cost of the project amounts to 230 million dirhams.

He explained that the project will raise the capacity of the street by 3000 vehicles per hour in each direction, in addition to separating the slow movement of traffic within a service road consisting of two lanes in each direction, for a distance of 2.5 km at the beginning of the Emirate of Sharjah with its borders with the Emirate of Dubai.

The development of Al Ittihad Street between Dubai and Sharjah is one of four road projects targeting the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, at an estimated cost of 780 million dirhams, in addition to the Emirates Street development project, and includes development that costs about 200 million dirhams, terrestrial intersections And tunnels, and raise the capacity of the road, so that it contributes to improving the linkage and communication between urban complexes on both sides of the road, and it also serves the process of starting flights from the eastern coast of the Emirates through Khorfakkan Street.

He pointed out that the projects of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development are considered one of the most important tributaries of the civilized development that depends on it in improving the living conditions of the population and providing basic services to the residents of the state, and it is considered one of the vital and important sectors that contribute to increasing the growth of the national economy, which made it receive great government attention and highlighting On projects implemented by the Ministry.

The Ministry has announced its plan to develop several streets, Al Dhaid Street, with a length of 30 km, as it aims to expand the road to three lanes, in addition to constructing a new bridge within the project, at an estimated cost of 220 million dirhams, which contributes to raising its capacity by 2000 vehicles / An hour for each direction, and an additional lane will be allocated for trucks, within the project, which reduces traffic accidents and the expected delay resulting from the slow traffic of trucks, and the development of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street at a cost of 130 million dirhams, and the project will include developing Two bridges on the intersections, and raise the carrying capacity, so that contributes to leveling Service level from E to C, which contributes to reducing traffic congestion and traffic accidents, and raise the capacity of the road by 40%.

Regarding the federal roads, Abdullah indicated that the lengths of the federal roads amounted to 771.5 km, explaining that the ministry carried out 3205 corrective maintenance operations for the federal roads during 2019, compared to 56665 in the year 2018, while the number of preventive maintenance operations reached 3709 in 2019 compared to 3,459 years 2018, while the ministry completed 47 transactions to determine the distance, 190 to estimate the value of road damage, and issued 145 no-objection certificates.
