In the afternoon of 4 hours local bombardment was launched targeting the Alvard Air Force Base in northern Baghdad and the Green Zone where the US Embassy was located.

US troops are stationed at Albalad, about 80 kilometers north of Baghdad.

To sum up the local media, three Iraqi soldiers and civilians were wounded by three rockets that landed at Albalad. The US casualties are not yet known.

The mortar towards Green Zone exploded in a park about 1 km from the US Embassy.

Iraqi forces say no one was killed in these two attacks.

As the attack broke out, the US troops launched helicopters and several unmanned reconnaissance planes to track the origin of the attack.

The rocket attacks on Iraq's military bases and Green Zones have been frustrating for the past two months.

The United States has pointed out Iraqi Shiite militias backed by Iran.

It is possible that the attack was linked to Iran, after Iran warned the United States of "severe retaliation" for the murder of General Soleimani.

It may also be an independent retaliation counterattack, with Soliemani, the commander-in-chief of the militia, Abu Mahdi Almuhandes.
