Title defender Xander Schauffele challenged gusts of wind and sometimes rain to lead the Tournament of Champions, counting for the North American Professional Golf Circuit (PGA) after the second round , Friday night in Hawaii.

On the Plantation to Kapalua route, Schauffele scored a 68 to 5 stroke under par par, scoring five birdies and not conceding a single bogey.

With a total of 137, he is a length ahead of the previous leader, the young Chilean, 21, Joaquin Niemann, who shares 2nd place with the American Patrick Reed, author of the best card of the day (66).

The Tournament of Champions brings together the winners of last season's tournaments and unofficially kicks off the new season.
