French President Emmanuel Macron met with Iraqi President Barham Saleh on Saturday morning after the death in an American raid in Iraq of the powerful Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, said the Elysee. "The two presidents agreed to stay in close contact to avoid further escalation of tensions and act for the stability of Iraq and the region as a whole," the source said.
Emmanuel Macron was also in telephone contact on Saturday with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed ben Zayed, de facto leader of the United Arab Emirates with whom they "agreed to act together with all stakeholders to avoid an escalation dangerous tensions in the region ”.
28 dead in raid on military school in Libya

The two leaders "expressed their determination to act", two days after the authorization given by the Turkish parliament of a deployment of the Turkish army in Libya, underlined the Elysée. They notably pleaded for a "cease-fire to be established" and for "the inter-Libyan negotiations to resume as soon as possible".
But later on Saturday, at least 28 people were killed and dozens injured in an air strike against a military school in a residential area of Tripoli under the control of the Government of National Union (GNA). On Facebook, the latter accused supporters of Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the strongman of eastern Libya, of having carried out this strike, posting photos of the wounded and the victims. Libya has been in chaos since the fall of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
