The US Public Health Authority now gives manufacturers, distributors and sellers of flavored e-cigarette liquids a 30-day deadline to remove the products from the trade.

"The United States has never seen such an epidemic of addiction spread so quickly," said United States Health Minister Alex Azar in a statement.

Has been widely debated

Many young people in the United States use e-cigarettes, especially flavored with fruit, menthol or mint.

E-liquids have also been widely debated in the US in the fall after 39 people died and 2,000 injured after using e-cigarettes. According to US health authorities, vitamin E acetate is the probable cause behind the lung damage caused by the fluids.

Vitamin E acetate is used in a variety of foods and hygiene items, such as skin creams, and can inhibit lung function when inhaled. It can also be used to bind fluid and make oils thicker, which can then be smoked in e-cigarettes.
