Before, during and after the end of year and New Year celebrations, Brazzaville with its million and a half inhabitants bends under the garbage that strews arteries and pollutes several places. The Brazzavillois do not understand the silence of the municipality. While workers at the private company Averda, which is responsible for collecting the garbage piled up in blue bins, claim that most of their trucks are out of service.

On avenue Marien Ngouabi in the sixth arrondissement, from the crossroads known as “Keba na virage” to the Mikalou terminus, for around 3 kilometers, no ferry can breathe. All of these bins are overflowing with garbage.

On the avenues, there are really trash cans, dirt. People can no longer breathe. Now there is not going at all. Everything we see here is a danger. We never supported that. But we are forced to bear it because the state is failing, ”denounce the residents in turn.

The blue bins of the Averda company containing this garbage are placed for some in front of very busy places such as drinking places or open-air markets. In this rainy period, the Brazzavillians fear the appearance of epidemics. All this garbage takes us away from illnesses. Illnesses are not just cholera and malaria. There are several, ”says a citizen.

One of the most overflowing bins is at zero steps from the house of radio and television. The mini restaurant of Juliana, a lady who offers chicken legs and braised chops at dusk, faces this garbage bin. People are also taking advantage to piss in this garbage. My customers sometimes refuse to eat on site because of the odors. It really bothers , ”she complains.

Some Averda agents met in the field claim that several of their company's garbage collection trucks have broken down. The company has ordered more and is awaiting delivery.
