Mahmoud Mohamed - Tripoli

On Thursday, the Turkish Parliament voted on a memorandum authorizing the dispatch of soldiers to Libya pursuant to the security agreement between the two countries, welcome responses from officials in Tripoli.

The move comes from Turkey after the Libyan National Accord government submitted a formal request to Ankara for military support.

The mandate period in the memorandum will be one year, subject to extension in accordance with Article 92 of the Turkish Constitution regarding the dispatch of military forces to foreign countries.

Shortly after the Turkish parliament approved the authorization memorandum, Libyan Foreign Minister Mehmed Tahir Siala contacted his Turkish counterpart, Mawlid Javishoglu, and thanked him for the move.

Later in the day, the Libyan Supreme State Council welcomed the decision of the Turkish Parliament.

The forces of the Al-Wefaq government have responded since last April to an attack by the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter aimed at invading Tripoli and overthrowing the legitimate government there.

Turkey ready
Yassin Aktai, adviser to the head of the Turkish Justice and Development Party, considered that Turkey is now ready to take all military actions to support the Al-Wefaq government against the negative interference of mercenaries and the countries supporting Haftar.

Aqati told Al-Jazeera Net that there is no objection to Turkey from sending soldiers to Libya or establishing military bases if the government of national reconciliation requests, as the mandate note includes that.

He stressed that Ankara, after the Turkish parliament voted to send soldiers to Libya, alerts the supportive countries to what he described as the retired coup general, Khalifa Haftar - like Egypt and the UAE - as going the wrong way, as he put it.

Aktaay explained that the Turkish army will go to Libya to defend the Libyans and respond to their call, noting that the Egyptians and Emiratis intervene in Libya in a blatant manner and kill the Libyans with military support with Haftar.

Support form
Member of the Supreme Council of the State, Adel Karmous, affirmed that the Al-Wefaq government needs air and sea support from Turkey to protect Libyan regional waters, and the coverage of warplanes in the western region from any attack by what he described as Haftar militias against civilians.

Karmous said in an interview with Al-Hazeera Net that if conditions require and the Al-Wefaq government requests ground support, there will be military bases inside the Libyan territories, and they will be fully equipped and secured by the Libyan army and the units supporting the Al-Wefaq government.

He added that the Libyan army forces need the specific weapon and air defense system to reduce the difference with the other party, which has been equipping itself with advanced weapons and unlimited support since four years ago to invade Tripoli from some of the countries that have big money.

A member of the Libyan Supreme Council of the State continued, "Unfortunately, the international community, despite its recognition of the reconciliation government and its recognition that the solution will be only political, we find the hypocrisy of some major countries in their dealings with the Libyan file, as the party covers the countries that support Haftar."

For his part, a member of the Libyan Parliament, Ali Abu Zoukk, believes that the Parliament in Tripoli has been calling for Turkish support for the Libyan file for some time.

AbuZakook said to Al-Jazeera Net that the form of Turkish support by all possible means, including military means, will be in coordination between the Turkish and Libyan government and in accordance with the requirements of developments in the field.

He added that the Turkish side expressed through various meetings with members of the House of Representatives very encouraging reactions to support the reconciliation government militarily, and to defend legitimacy.

Integrated agreement
In the context, a member of the Supreme Council of the State, Al-Qasim Dabars, considered that the security agreement with Turkey is an integrated one that protects Libyan sovereignty and establishes a new relationship with Ankara.

Debraz told Al Jazeera Net that the Al-Wefaq government needs Turkey in support of balancing the cuff by qualifying the Al-Wefaq forces in the field, and preventing Emirati-Egyptian aircraft from targeting civilians.

The Libyan parliamentarian stated that what he described as the militia of Haftar, the aggressor against Tripoli and the countries that support him, did not leave the legitimate government any room except to search for allies in the face of countries from Africa, Asia and Europe, which are defying the resources of Libya by sending mercenaries to it.
