The decision was made by the National Sports Meeting last year and means that "associations must request a limited register extract from the load register for the person employed, have assignments in the association and there have direct and regular contact with children."

- I think it's pretty natural. Pedophiles should be hunted and then of course we should make sure that they do not keep up with children in sports, says Björn Eriksson.

650,000 leaders

The National Sports Federation currently has around 20,000 associations with approximately 650,000 leaders. The figure also includes those who do not work with children.

- If you work with children, you are allowed to submit extracts. If you work with, for example, accounting or otherwise it may not apply. But if you have that load, you should not deal with children, says Eriksson.

- It is a reasonable wish. It is a democratic right to join a sports association, but not to work with children.

Is there a risk that sports leaders who may have worked diligently for 30 years feel offended by now having to submit extracts?

- Then you have to think about the children and feel that "I have not done anything, what a pleasure this is." It is an important instrument, ”says Björn Eriksson.

"Greater risk for children"

Sports leaders are in short supply - you see no risk that people dare not become youth leaders anymore?

- The risk is much greater in the other direction. If we do not do the best we can to keep it clean, it is much more likely that it will affect the children's sports than the reverse.

Björn Eriksson believes that the new requirement will have an effect, but that it cannot be relied solely on it.

- It is clear that there is still a big problem - namely that one who is (pedophile, editor. Notifications) and has never been convicted will not be found with the register extracts.
