The Sudanese Red Crescent Society announced today, Thursday, that it has transported 48 bodies of victims of the tribal clashes that broke out on the evening of December 29 in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, to the morgue of the city hospital.

241 people were injured, 19 of them in a state of injury, who were transferred to Khartoum, according to a statement by the Sudanese Red Crescent.

Clashes erupted in the city on Sunday evening, and they continued with weapons. A number of houses were burned. The clashes revolve between members of Arab and African groups.

In a statement, the Red Crescent said that its team “managed to evacuate and assist 55 injured people to Al-Geneina Hospital, and 19 injured people were in a critical condition, who were transferred to Al-Geneina Airport and from it to Khartoum. Ambulance was also provided to 167 and 48 bodies were transferred to the morgue.”

A government delegation from the members of the Sovereign Council and Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk visited El Geneina.

On Tuesday, the government decided to send more troops to the city and set up a commission to investigate the events.

On Monday, the local authorities imposed a curfew in the state.

"Our homes have been burned and now we have nothing to wear or eat, and the bodies are lying on the ground that we left when we fled the tents this morning," said one of the escapees from Kirdang camp near the city.
