In recent days, the municipality has been allowed to operate shuttle services with sand cars to combat slippage. As the situation has been now, so have all the streets and cycle paths, says the road operations manager Per Hilmersson.

- We have been driving pretty much every day now for a long time. We have some cycle paths and streets that have a higher priority and the cycle paths that are used the most, we maintain a further high standard, he says.

But in several places in Umeå, the municipality has erected signs where it is informed that the intended route is not being maintained. This has, according to Hilmersson, become more common.

- This is because we have a savings requirement on us and then we have chosen to remove some cycle paths where there is a cycle path on the other side of the street. Instead of lowering the standard, we have removed some sections, he says.
