The fine particulate matter pollution alert procedure was launched on Wednesday in six departments of the Grand Est, announced the agency responsible for monitoring air quality, Atmo.

Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, Ardennes, Marne, Aube and Bas-Rhin are concerned by this alert on Wednesday. On Thursday, the weather conditions should bring an improvement of the situation in the departments of the former Lorraine and Champagne-Ardenne regions but the alert must be maintained for the Bas-Rhin and extended to the Haut-Rhin, according to a press release from Atmo.

Authorized speed lowered for Thursday

In addition to the stable atmospheric conditions and the temperature inversion phenomenon which favor the accumulation of PM10 particles in the lower layers of the atmosphere, Atmo highlights the impact of New Year's fire and firecracker jets on the quality of the air in the agglomeration of Strasbourg.

The prefectures of the two Alsatian departments banned for the day of Thursday the burning in the open air of plants and the use of wood as auxiliary heating and lowered by 20km / h the speed allowed on the roads of the department.
