Pole Robert Kubica, without a shuttlecock since the end of his contract with Williams at the end of last Formula 1 season, will become a reserve driver in the Alfa Romeo Racing team, the team announced on Wednesday.

Kubica, 35, who made his F1 debut in what was then the Sauber team, will join Finnish Kimi Räikkönen and Italian Antonio Giovinazzi, the first two drivers.

He should also compete in DTM with BMW.

Kubica's return to his former team coincides with the contract signed between its main sponsor, the Polish oil company Pkn Orlen and Alfa Romeo Racing.

Author of the only point for the Williams team in 2019, Kubica made his return to F1 that year, eight years after a serious rally accident where he almost lost his right arm.
