A cancer patient in Romania died in a sad accident during surgery.

On Monday, foreign media including the British BBC reported on an incident at the Floreaska Hospital in Bucharest.

A 66-year-old woman who had surgery for pancreatic cancer at the hospital last Sunday had a severe burn to her body. The medical team caught an electric scalpel on a surgical area with alcohol disinfectant and caught fire. The woman who burned about 40% of her body in the accident eventually died a week later.

Afterwards, the survivor was told in an interview with the media that "the hospital simply explained 'accident' without explaining the details." He also said, "I just want to know what happened in the operating room before blaming the hospital."

The police have now begun investigating the incident, and officials from the Ministry of Health have expressed their willingness to "investigate the impact case thoroughly."

In response, the BBC reported that Romania is spending the least amount of money in the medical sector among EU countries, and is suffering from a lack of hospital facilities and medical staff.
