A baby of one month of life remains admitted since last December 19 in the hospital of Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, with irreversible brain injuries , for an alleged abuse of his parents.

A spokesman for the Mossos d'Esquadra confirmed on Tuesday to Efe the hospital admission of the child and that his parents, of Dominican nationality the father and Spanish the mother, were arrested, although they did not enter prison , on December 20.

According to information from Ser-Cataluña, the little boy, who is under the permanent supervision of a caregiver of the General Directorate of Children of the Generalitat, arrived at the center with seizures.

In emergencies, after some tests, they determined that he had suffered brain micro-infarctions after he was violently shaken , in what is known as the shaken baby syndrome.

The father explained at first that he was giving the bottle to the child in his house in Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona) and that he had begun to make strange movements.

Later, when he was arrested, he changed the version to the police and indicated that the boy had choked on drinking the milk and had shaken him a little to help him breathe better.

The mother said that at that time she was not at home and gave her partner's explanations for good.

On December 20, they were detained in the same hospital, after activating the planned protocol against child abuse and went to court on Monday for "abuse in the home", with the aggravating injury.

The court of Cornellà released them with charges and issued precautionary measures such as asking the Generalitat to take care of the guardianship of the child and that parents can visit the child every day for two hours in the morning.

According to the aforementioned information, Social Affairs has already opened a homelessness file and has taken care of the guardianship of the baby, at the same time as it has begun the procedures to appear as a private accusation in the judicial case in defense of the rights of the child.
