Welsh scrum half Rhys Webb has been released from his last year on contract with Toulon so he can return home "for family reasons," the RCT said on Monday.

Webb (31, 33 selections), who has not been selected by the XV of Leek since his arrival on the harbor in the summer of 2018, was initially hired until the summer of 2021.

This agreement had preceded by a few days, at the end of 2017, the announcement by the Welsh Federation of a tightening of the selection policy in order to retain players in the country: only players with more than 60 selections could claim to wear the national jersey while evolving abroad. Webb had therefore been the main victim of this new regulation.

Long injured for his first season in France, the N.9 had let his family return to the country at the start of the year, notably due to the adjustment problems of one of his children.

Competition at his post has greatly increased this season with the arrival of French international Baptiste Serin, in great shape since his return from the World Cup.
