Grafton Thomas has been formally accused of carrying out a 'hate crime' after wounding with a machete five people from the Jewish community celebrating the Hanukkah holiday in the town of Meney, just outside New York City. A 'hate crime' is one that is perpetrated against a person because of his or her identity. And, in this case, it seems clear that what motivated Thomas was the fact that his victims were Jewish. Of the five injured, one has suffered a skull fracture and remains in critical condition.
