Eskilstuna's official celebration begins with a New Year's prayer. Just before the twelve o'clock, the speech is made by the chair of the municipal council Ann-Sofie Wågström (S) and at the twelve o'clock it is traditional fireworks.

- We have, despite criticism, seen that fireworks are something that many people appreciate. We did a survey after last year's celebration and then there was a slight overweight that was positive for fireworks, says Ann-Sofie Wågström.

The governor is thanked

In Nyköping, for the seventh consecutive year, there will be a New Year's walk along the river leading to Stora torget, where, among other things, there will be speeches by the municipal council's chairman Urban Granström (S).

This year there will also be the resignation of Governor Liselott Hagberg, who will make his last day as governor on New Year's Eve and then succeeded by former Minister Beatrice Ask (M).

"Sees no need"

No other municipality in Sörmland has any official New Year celebration. For example, Katrineholm had a New Year's walk in conjunction with the 100th anniversary a couple of years ago, and it was followed by another walk. But now you are low.

- We see no need for it. But if wishes arise, it is possible that it will be eliminated in the future, says Göran Dahlström (S), chairman of the municipal council.
