According to Izvestia, an alternative would be to subsidize existing airlines.

In connection with the instructions of the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Air Transport Agency and Sberbank, VTB and Rostec state corporation are working on the project.

At the moment, for greater accessibility of flights to the Far East, flat fares are used: purchased tickets have a fixed price, which does not change depending on the date or season.

“There is hope for the implementation of the project. We have a federal budget with a surplus. Next year it will be possible to spend funds from the National Welfare Fund, which already has about 8 trillion rubles. The price of oil does not fall, the state has money, therefore, all the conditions are in place for considering this issue next year, ”said Ivan Abramov, member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy.

In April, the Russian government allocated 2.5 billion rubles to subsidize air travel to the Far East.
