Yesterday, the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences announced the start of receiving medical scientific research projects from within the United Arab Emirates, through which the research to be supported by the award will be chosen within the activities of its 11th session, 2019 / 2020.
This was stated by the Executive Director of the Award, Abdullah bin Soukat, who extended his sincere thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance (the sponsor of the award), for the continuous support of His Highness for the activities of the award, which always seeks to develop the health sector inside and outside the country.
He also indicated that support requests, documents and required papers are submitted electronically, through the electronic portal, to make it easier for customers to fulfill the required papers, in addition to taking the necessary evaluation procedures for this research, and the award will launch an advertising campaign to open the door to receiving research support requests in most academic institutions and research centers And treatment at the level of the Emirates, to provide the largest possible number of researchers for support requests.
He added that «the award has finally been approved by two million dirhams, to fund 12 new researches at Emirates University, New York University Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University, and the University of Sharjah.
He pointed out that «the award follows an accurate scientific approach to evaluate the submitted research, as the initial evaluation process begins, through the research committee of the Scientific Committee and then followed by other stages of evaluation of the scientific content through international arbitrators, each according to its specialization, taking into account the importance of the research presented to the UAE community And the future of scientific research in the country, in addition to the possibility of using its outputs in application, and then finally to find its way to publishing in major medical journals worldwide, and the award has provided support for nearly 600 researches, where 20% of these researches received full financial support , Others also benefited N research of scientific assessment moderated by a group of international arbitrators, which helped develop the process indirectly ».
The head of the Medical Research Grants Committee, Dr. Siham Al-Din Galadari said, "The award-winning scientific committee is keen in selecting the advanced research for the grant, on the local need in the health sector, and its ruling takes into account multiple factors, the most important of which is the importance and methodology of the research under study and the scientific merit of researchers."
He added that to ensure the quality of the arbitration, the award uses international arbitrators in the second stage of the evaluation, in order to sort out the most worthy projects.
He emphasized that “scientific research is one of the pillars of development for societies, and that scientific research in the health sector in the past 20 years witnessed huge breakthroughs in the UAE.
