The British government has accidentally published the personal addresses of those distinguished by the queen for the new year. The 2020 New Year Honors list, with which Britain recognizes celebrities such as Olivia Newton-John , Sam Mendes , Steve McQueen or crivet player Clive Lloyd , was published Friday night.
The initial version published online contained the personal addresses of more than 1,000 recipients, including singer Elton John , and remained visible for about an hour, according to the BBC. The Cabinet Office has claimed that the addresses had been published in error and removed from the website "as soon as possible".
"We apologize to all those affected and we are investigating how this could have happened. We have reported the matter to the Office of the Information Commissioner and we are contacting all those affected directly," the Cabinet Office tweeted.
Victorian tradition
Elton John , who was knighted in 1998, becomes a member of the Order of the Companions of Honor for his career in music.

Clive Lloyd , 75, was a batter and captain of the West Indies team between 1974 and 1985 at a time when the team reached its maximum power.
New Year's Honors have been awarded since Queen Victoria's reign in the 19th century and are intended to recognize not only known figures but those who have contributed to national life through contributions often uninterested and unrecognized during many years.
The list of honors is published twice a year: on the queen's birthday in June and at the end of each year.
