This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by YouGov for the publication Welt am Sonntag.

It is noted that Merkel was named by 22% of respondents, Putin - 20%, Macron - 19%.

They are followed by the President of the United States Donald Trump - 16%, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen - 12%, the leader of China Xi Jinping - 10%, the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson - 9%.

The last place, according to the survey, was taken by German Minister of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (3% of respondents).

It is clarified that 29% of the study participants did not name a single politician from the list, 21% found it difficult to answer.

At the same time, as the publication notes, 55% of respondents want a more active foreign policy role of Germany, 23% oppose this.

The number of survey participants and the time of its conduct are not specified.

In July, the German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel reported that, according to polls, 72% of East German residents favored rapprochement with Russia, and 54% of respondents in western Germany.
