It was in February this year that the then 17-month-old girl came to the emergency room at a hospital in Gothenburg and was severely malnourished. According to prosecutor Ximena Bene, the child's diet consisted largely of breast milk, brown rice and fruits and vegetables.

The trial in the district court was held at the beginning of May this year and the two parents were sentenced to three months in prison each. But because they had been detained for two months at that time, it meant that they had already served their sentence. In addition to the prison sentence, the parents in the district court were also sentenced to pay damages of SEK 60,000 to the girl.

- The girl lives with her mother and meets her dad on a daily basis, they are still a family. But there is still an LVU and the social service has regular contact with the family. The social service has stated in its investigation that it is a loving family and that the parents take good care of the girl, says Linn Augustson, who is the father's defense lawyer.

The parents refuse a crime

Parents have constantly denied crime, saying that their children's condition was due to stomach ailment. Something that the doctors' testimony spoke against. They state that a temporary medical condition cannot cause the health condition the girl had when she entered the emergency room.

According to the prosecution in the district court, doctors considered that the girl was only hours away from dying due to severe malnutrition.
