  • Events: A father and his two children die drowned in a pool in an urbanization

"I was in the pool playing with my 9-year-old sister when suddenly she suffered a slip and fell into the deep part of the pool . She started to drown and I couldn't do anything to help her, so I screamed for help (.. .) " This is the statement of the sister who was in the pool at the time of the tragedy of Mijas, in which a father and two of his children died.

According to Public Mirror, the girl says she was playing with her sister in the pool of the Club La Costa World , where the family was staying, when she slipped and fell into the water. In his statement, he states that his brother was the first to arrive and jump into the water to help her , followed by her father. None of the three knew how to swim, as confirmed.

"First my brother arrived and threw himself directly into the water to try to rescue her. Upon reaching the deep area I had trouble staying afloat. My brother then saw how my father arrived. He took off his pants to jump into the water and I ran off in looking for a float. My sister and I had received some swimming lessons in my country, but always in areas where we were standing, "he told the Civil Guard.

The mother, who has also taken a statement, arrived seconds after hearing her daughter's screams, so they both witnessed the tragedy.

Awaiting new testimonies -clients of the tourist complex, workers ...-, the route of this investigation, which coordinates the Court of Instruction number 2 of Fuengirola, is almost exhausted after the different lines of work have finished reinforcing the hypothesis that has been most strongly considered from the beginning: accidental death.

The possibility that there had been a failure in the purification system of the pool, the first version that transpired, was quickly ruled out after the review that the specialists of the Special Group of Underwater Activities carried out on Tuesday.

The management of the Club La Costa World , where the events occurred, issued a statement on Wednesday night informing that "the Civil Guard has carried out a full investigation from which it is extracted that the pool meets all the requirements and current regulations, so they have authorized the reopening of it ".

This communication gave a definitive folder to a line of work that, according to sources close to the case, opened without much faith in its results. "Nothing indicated that there were failures, but it had to be ruled out , " they added.

Autopsies have endorsed that initially we would face a conventional drowning, since none of the bodies showed signs of suction or other injuries. For their part, sources consulted by this newspaper have explained that the specialists of the Delegation of Health have ruled out that the deceased had suffered some type of intoxication . "They have not detected irregularities from the sanitary point of view," they said, to insist that "the facilities comply with all standards."

The events occurred around 1:00 pm at the Club La Costa World, located on the Cádiz road, in the coastal area of Mijas. Emergencies 112 received several calls alerting that there were three unconscious people in the complex's pool. They quickly moved to the site of the Armed Institute, the Public Health Emergencies Company and the Local Police.

Upon arrival, the staff of the establishment had rescued the three victims from the water and performed resuscitation, but nothing they could do to save their lives .
