Norwegian writer Ari Behn, ex-husband of Princess Martha Louise of Norway, died Wednesday at the age of 47, his agent said, adding that he had committed suicide.

"He died today," Geir Hakonsund wrote in an email to AFP.

Ari Behn had published in 1999 his first book, a collection of short stories entitled "Trist som faen". He is the author of several novels and plays.

He became famous in 2002 after marrying Princess Martha Louise, and the two spouses wrote a book together on their marriage entitled "Fra hjerte til hjerte" (Heart to Heart).

They had three daughters before announcing their divorce in August 2016.

Ari Behn published in 2018 his latest book, "Inferno", in which he describes his fight against mental disorders.
