None of the three British relatives who died Tuesday in a pool in Mijas (Málaga) could swim, as a daughter of the family told investigators.

Sources close to the case have informed Efe of the daughter's declaration before the Civil Guard, which investigates the circumstances for which a 53-year-old man and two of his children, 9 and 16, died in the pool of a tourist complex from the Malaga town of Mijas.

The Civil Guard investigates the case under the supervision of the Court of Instruction number 2 of Fuengirola (Málaga) and is now responsible for collecting the testimonies of the witnesses , including some clients of the tourist complex, workers and relatives who survived: the mother and Another daughter

The event happened around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday when, according to eyewitnesses, the 9-year-old girl had trouble getting out of the pool and her father came in to help her, but he also couldn't leave the water, so the son 16 came to assist them and also drowned.

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Malaga, so forensics will send the preliminary report of the corresponding autopsies to the court.

Investigators have also focused their efforts on finding out if there was a technical problem in the pool that motivated the tragedy. To do this, they have checked the pool's engines, have taken samples of the water and collected the swimming cap that the child was supposedly wearing.

The hat was in the skimmer basket, where other items that fall into the pool are usually deposited as leaves or insects, as sources close to the investigation have told Efe, which have indicated that this does not imply that there was a problem in the filtration system, so the investigation remains open.

The Club La Costa World reported on Wednesday that the reopening of the pool in which the deaths occurred, which meets "all requirements" and current regulations had been authorized.
