This Thursday, December 26 in the United Kingdom, is the famous "Boxing Day", the day of broadcast of very important matches in the English Premier League. This year, for the first time, the matches will not be broadcast on a television channel, but on a streaming platform.

Boxing Day is a long-awaited day across the Channel, but also around the world. The novelty this year is that the transmission of important Premier League matches will be done on Amazon's streaming platform .

The web giant Amazon has offered the rights to broadcast matches of the 15th day of the Premier League, the English club football championship, in live-streaming.

This is the first time that “televised” Premier League matches in the UK will not be broadcast on a conventional television channel, while Sky has held live broadcast rights since the competition was created in 1992, and BT Sport since 2013.

This offer is offered exclusively to the 9 million British subscribers of Amazon Prime, Amazon's online streaming service. A service that costs 7.99 pounds sterling per month, or almost 9 euros.

From e-commerce to football matches

It was after months of negotiations that Amazon, the e-commerce company, had entered the midst of the two main players in the Premier League, Sky and BT Sport, by offering the broadcasting rights to sixty matches between 2019 and 2022, for the modest sum of 100 million euros.

An important investment, but it must be said that there is a lot to gain on the broadcasting rights in live sport, and especially football. In recent years, Amazon has continued to invest in the entertainment industry. Particularly in cinema and TV series, but also in tennis, football and racing.

Amazon releases the big game to unite customers

Amazon's goal is to unite customers who arrive through a 30-day free trial period and who ultimately stay to watch other sporting events, movies, TV series, while taking advantage of the delivery service to home. Amazon is almost certain to jump its British customer base during the month of December. It remains to be seen whether the giant will succeed in keeping them.

For the Premier League, Amazon did not skimp on resources, with 43 presenters, commentators and sports experts, including well-known ex-players, including Thierry Henry. Each match will be broadcast live and there will also be a separate program to reflect on the highlights.
