The storm was slightly amplified before it hit with winds exceeding 50 meters per second. The winds have left destroyed houses and fallen trees behind, but so far, however, there is no information about neither injured nor dead.

While the weather is now moving on, large parts of the air and ferry traffic to and from the island nation are eliminated. The traffic disruptions, which do not seem to affect the capital Manila, make it difficult for many to return home in time for the traditional Christmas day dinner.

Affected by 20 tropical storms each year

The Philippines is hit by an average of 20 tropical storms each year with destroyed crops, homes and deaths as a result. Six years ago, more than 7,300 people died in the super-typhoon Haiyan, the deadliest storm ever to hit the country.
