The head of the Lebanese caretaker government, Saad Hariri, said that the next government that was assigned to form the former minister, Hassan Diab, would be the government of Gibran Bassil, referring to the president of the Free Patriotic Movement.

Al-Hariri added in an interview published by the "Future Web" yesterday, Tuesday, that he did not name the designated president, and stressed that the Future Movement will not participate in the government that Diab is trying to form, and will not give it confidence if it is presented in Parliament.

He considered that there is a campaign targeting what he called "political silk", stressing that this campaign will not pass and that he will confront it strongly.

Hariri, who resigned from his post at the end of last October under pressure from the protests calling for changing the current political class, fighting corruption and reforming the economy, also announced his rejection of what he called the demonization of the sons of the Sunni community in Lebanon and accusing them of stealing the country.

It is noteworthy that the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces announced their opposition to designating Al-Hariri as the head of a government of specialists, so that the assignment would go to Diab, who, after binding parliamentary consultations, received the support of 69 deputies out of 128 deputies.

As for the Prime Minister-designate of Lebanon, he said that consultations on forming a government are still in its infancy, adding that after his discussions yesterday with President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace, things are going well.

Although he was tasked with forming the government with the support of Hezbollah and its allies, Diab - who is an academic and former education minister - rejected the accusations that he would be under the control of the party, and promised to form a government of specialists within six weeks.

And last Sunday, thousands of Lebanese demonstrated to reject Diab's mandate to form the new government. The protesters are demanding a rescue government whose president and members are competent, independent, and able to pull Lebanon out of its economic crisis.
