24 December 2019There were more than 2000 people at the "Legality Walk" organized, on Christmas Eve, by the provincial coordination of Libera Vibo Valentia. The procession crossed the city, stopping at the Tribunal, until it reached the provincial command of the carabinieri. the event wanted to testify the community's thanks to the presidium of the Arma that did an impeccable and immense job, under the coordination of the Dda of Catanzaro, in the anti-mafia investigation "Rinascita-Scott", which resulted in the blitz of last Thursday which led to the arrest of 334 people.

Prosecutor Falvo: "We hope people will stay with us"
Administrators, exponents of the political, institutional, business, trade union world, but also many simple citizens participated in the event which wanted to represent a rebirth by the population. "Vibo Valentia deserved it - said the prosecutor of the Republic, Camillo Falvo - is a city that unfortunately has been under pressure from organized crime for too long".

"We put it at the center of attention first with the installation of myself, strongly desired by the prosecutor Gratteri - added Falvo - and then with this operation that sent a very important signal to the population. Now we hope that people will on our side, you start to denounce and make a choice of field, a right choice, a choice of legality. We have given this track and we are confident ".

Carabinieri: "Operation Rinascita is a turning point"
"The Rebirth operation - said the lieutenant colonel Bruno Capece, provincial commander of the Arma - represented a turning point in this city. But we are not cradling our laurels. All this beautiful manifestation of esteem by the people stimulates us to do even more, not to betray their trust. To people I say that now it's their turn, we are there to collect all their reports, but we need their contribution because the fight against crime is long, constant, exhausting and they cannot fight it only by law enforcement and the judiciary. "

Free: "Historical day"
For Giuseppe Borrello, coordinator Libera Vibo is a "historic day for this city, for the whole of Calabria. We are convinced - he added - that what happened is not only linked to the activities of the judiciary and law enforcement, but must necessarily concern the entire community. The whole territory in which there have been countries that ended up being freed from the presence of the mafia clans. Now is the time for rebirth, for reconstruction, but it is now necessary for healthy society to do their share. Today there are many young people here, a sign that the message of legality has been received by them ".

The mayor of Vibo: "Legality"
"The large presence of citizens - claimed the mayor of Vibo Valentia, Maria Limardo - represents the unequivocal signal that the territory wants to occupy those spaces left free and until yesterday the prerogative of the mafia consortiums. As a municipal administration we had from the first moment of the our settlement clearly what our path was; without hesitation we placed ourselves on the level of procedural correctness, administrative transparency, clarity of our acts, legality in a word, adopting a series of measures that go in this direction, not least the integrity pact that the city of Vibo entered into for the first time and that I hope other municipalities will follow suit ".

Morra: "Ndrangheta challenge at home"
"A robust participation of people in this initiative with which, in some way, the 'Ndrangheta in' her home 'challenged herself. It is an excellent sign, but it cannot be enough". This was said by Senator Nicola Morra, president of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission, participating in the "Legality Walk" promoted by Libera a few days after the carabinieri operation "Rinascita Scott" coordinated by the DDA of Catanzaro.

"First of all you have to hit it in its financial part - added Morra - to subtract the resources. So, for example, do not consume at the commercial activities that are attributable to exponents of the clans who, as the Rinascita investigation also brought to light, are very skilled to launder money and therefore, where there is suspicion, it is necessary to verify, verify and make consequent choices. The judiciary cannot intervene in real time, but it rightly needs time to crystallize the conduct. The citizen, however, can do it because it knows the territory in which it lives and can make choices of legality. I appeal to political forces in view of the imminence of the electoral consultations here in Calabria but also in Emilia Romagna to carry out the appropriate checks when presenting the lists, excluding and isolating those unclear figures. "

Callipo and Lo Bianco were met by precautionary measures in the context of the "Rinascita Scott" investigation coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catanzaro which disarticulated all the Ndrangheta organizations operating in the Vibonese area and headed by the Mancuso gang of Limbadi. The suspension measures start from the date of notification of the precautionary measure. The mayor of Pizzo, Gianluca Callipo, has resigned in recent days from office.
