Norrland is, as usual, the safest place to go if you want a Christmas with lots of snow. During Sunday, some precipitation is expected to fall mainly inland.

- In northern Norrland, it is positive when it comes to snow. There it is expected during the day to fall quite large quantities so there will be a white Christmas. But a little slippery along the northern Norrland coast when mild air pushes behind the snowfall that turns to rain, and then ice when it reaches the ground, says Deana Bajic, meteorologist at SVT.

The weather in other parts of the country is not much to cheer about as it is covered with a lot of clouds, haze and mild temperatures.

A gray Christmas in the south, but there is hope

On Monday, the weather will look pretty much the same in southern Sweden. In Norrland, the snowfall will subside and the weather will instead consist of a lot of clouds.

But there are some places in central Sweden that can expect snow on Christmas Eve.

- A rainy area draws in during Monday evening over Götaland and Svealand, which later in the night turns into snowfall over western Svealand, for example Värmland and even in the northern part of Närke and Västmanland some snow may come, says Deana Bajic and continues.

- The question, however, is how much of it will remain, there may be some snow on the ground but at least in the air. During Christmas Eve, southern Dalarna can expect some snowfall.

Otherwise, the weather during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will consist of gray, hazy weather in Svealand and Götaland. A thick cloud cover will cover Norrland during Christmas Eve.

The weather is changing

After the Christmas holidays, the weather will turn and minus degrees are expected throughout the country.

- We get colder weather as of Friday, and finally minus degrees even in the south and then we could get some snow in Svealand, concludes Deana Bajic.
