The Roads and Transport Authority will inaugurate tomorrow, the sixth phase of the road network development project leading to Expo 2020, which includes the development of the intersection of Emirates Street with Expo Street, and its completion comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the State, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai ( May God protect him, by developing road projects and transportation systems related to meeting the requirements of Dubai hosting the Expo, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, which serves visitors to the exhibition and serves future projects in the region.

The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, Mattar Al Tayer, confirmed that the project of developing the road network leading to the Expo is considered one of the largest road projects that the authority is currently implementing to meet the requirements of the Emirate of Dubai hosting Expo 2020, and given its huge size, it is divided into six phases, whose total cost is estimated at three Billions of dirhams.

Al Tayer said: The project included the implementation of bridges with a length of one kilometer and 400 meters, and roads along nearly eight kilometers, where the number of Expo Street paths will be increased from four tracks to six tracks in each direction, with a length of three kilometers, and the Emirates Street will be developed with a length of approximately five kilometers, indicating During the project, the existing rotor on the intersection of Emirates Street with Expo Street has been converted to a bridge intersection, providing free traffic in all directions, by raising the Expo Street with a bridge with a capacity of four tracks in each direction, and the implementation of service roads on both sides with a capacity of two paths for each Of them, while providing turnovers and connectors To ensure the smooth flow of traffic from Emirates Street towards Abu Dhabi and vice versa, and from Expo Street towards Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, in addition to facilitating traffic coming from Jebel Ali to Habbab in the north to Emirates Street towards Dubai, and from Expo Street in the south to Emirates Street towards Abu Dhabi .

Al Tayer said that during the project, the previous roundabout on the intersection of Emirates Street with Expo Street was converted to a bridge intersection that provides free traffic in all directions, which contributes to increasing the capacity of the street from 10,000 vehicles per hour to 23,700 vehicles per hour, and improves traffic To the Expo, to the Dubai South area and Al Maktoum International Airport, in addition to reducing the travel time by removing the old roundabout and traffic signal, as well as increasing the traffic capacity to three times with the presence of free traffic on the main roads.
