“I was somewhat surprised, even a little hurt by one of the latest resolutions of the European Parliament of September 19, 2019,” he said at a meeting of leaders of the CIS countries.

According to him, the CIS countries also always together sought to ensure this quality of history, its truthfulness, openness and objectivity.

“I want to emphasize again this applies to all of us, because we, to a certain extent, are the heirs of the former Soviet Union; when they talk about the Soviet Union, they talk about us, ”Putin added.

He said that the “Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact,” according to a resolution of the EP, divided Europe and the territories of independent states “between two totalitarian regimes, which paved the way” for the outbreak of war.

“Moreover, the European deputies are demanding that Russia stop efforts aimed at distorting historical facts and promoting the thesis that Poland, the Baltic countries and the West are the real instigators of the war,” the head of state said.

Putin emphasized that "we never said anything like that, that someone from these listed countries is the instigator."

“What is the truth after all? I wanted to figure it out, ”he added.

He said that he asked his colleagues to pick up some archival documents.

“And when I started reading them, you know, it seemed to me that it would be interesting for all of us, because - I repeat again - we are all the former Soviet Union,” he emphasized.

On December 11, Putin noted that the resolution of the European Parliament actually "put the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union on the same level."

He pointed out that attempts to argue with these allegations are called the "information war against a democratic Europe."
