- The shadow boxing for the contract business 2020 is over, IF Metall's chairman Marie Nilsson begins a press conference where unions and employers in the industry seriously kick off the contract business.

Industry negotiations are important for so many more. This is where the so-called wage mark is to be set according to the usual rules that most unions have signed - a level that will then become a guide for the entire labor market.

"Far beyond what the industry can carry"

The trade union requirements are largely already known. In addition to the pure wage requirements of three per cent, industrial unions have wishes for additional provisions for part-time pensions. In addition, in accordance with the LO agreement, the LO Association IF Metall wants to see a low-wage investment.

- The demand level lands at four percent. This is far beyond what the competitive industry can bear, ”says Tekasföretagen's CEO Klas Wåhlberg at a press conference.

He himself does not want to state now what employers can offer, but it is not zero in any case.

- But it's about low or no cost increases, he says.

"We think that is totally unreasonable"

Employers point to poorer times, especially in the industry where production is expected to decline in the coming year.

"But it is a slowdown from high levels, we do not see any recession in sight," says Swedish Engineers Chairman Ulrika Lindstrand.

She also mentions that the engineers for the first time so far require individual guarantees. The agreement works poorly, for many are left without a premium, according to her.

- Eight percent of the members receive zero or almost nothing, we think that is completely unreasonable, says Ulrika Lindstrand.

It is partly waved away by the Technical Negotiation Manager's acting negotiator Tomas Undin. With such a hot labor market for engineers, those who feel disadvantaged should be able to change jobs, he reasoned.

Last March, the old agreement expires, then the idea is that the new one will be in place.
