The deputy LREM Cédric Villani is a candidate for mayor of Paris in dissent with his party. LUDOVIC MARIN / AFP

Cédric Villani accepts the hand extended by David Belliard. The deputy LREM entered in dissent and the environmental candidate for the mayor of Paris will therefore try to unite to rob the French capital of the socialist Anne Hidalgo.

For now, the current mayor of Paris is leading with 22.5% of polls. Cédric Villani is credited with 14% of the voting intentions, and David Belliard with 12.5%.

We do not yet know what form this alliance will take in concrete terms. In any case, it should not intervene before the interval between the two laps. The two men will meet soon to talk about it, said Cédric Villani who "greened" his program recently. However, there are still substantive differences between them, notably on the creation of an armed municipal police.

Another subject that should also be on the discussion menu is the extent of this gathering. David Belliard wants a grand coalition that goes to rebellious France. Cédric Villani, he thinks rather of the Modem and the progressive right.

Europe-Ecology-Greens cringe

Difficult therefore to believe that it will pass within Europe-Ecology-The Greens, where the announcement of a rapprochement with the walking deputy already makes teeth cringe. The party leadership denounces a solitary enterprise on the part of David Belliard. Impossible to ally with LREM considered as a right-wing party, specifies the national secretary Julien Bayou.

Only Yannick Jadot welcomed the initiative on Twitter. An initiative in the form of a communications coup because David Belliard and Cédric Villani are lagging behind in the polls, and they are trying to relaunch their campaign.

Bravo @David_Belliard to open a new perspective! "I no longer believe in old patterns. Faced with heat waves, repeated pollution peaks, I am extremely worried. There is no longer any alternative, we must act. »Https://t.co/Xg10q3dGBs
