On Monday, Mälarrafik rolled out the new more modern commuter trains on the Örebro - Stockholm route, and there have been some technical problems. Among other things, commuters have testified that it took time to open the doors of the new wagons.

Mälarrafik rents the trains by Transitio, a company jointly owned by all of Sweden's public transport companies.

“A giant challenge”

- I'd be lying if I said we don't have some minor run-in problems. It is a huge challenge to put ten trains in operation at once and make everything work perfectly. Then it is the case that delays always hit hardest in rush hour traffic when many go, says technical project manager Sven Malmberg.

Already on the first morning, a departure was canceled and the last few days the trains have been delayed with some delays. According to Malmberg, however, this is primarily due to a bridge fault in Kungsör, which means that all trains must run at reduced speed.

Winter is usually a time when lean commuters are often forced to stand and wait for delayed or canceled trains. According to Malmberg, the idea is that the new trains should be more reliable, partly because they differ very technically from the older locomotive wagons.

Will be winter tested

But to verify that the trains really work in a harsh climate, the two train sets in January will be tested in winter on the ore track north of Kiruna.

All staff have been trained in the new trains, but Sven Malmberg is still happy that the Christmas and New Year holidays mean a period with fewer commuters in commuter traffic.

- Then it is not the same pressure and you have to get used to the stuff and become more prepared when everyday life comes. Routine is required just like in all professions.
