19 December 2019Salvatore Buzzi, former ras of the Roman cooperatives and key figure in the "Mondo di Mezzo" trial, goes under house arrest after five years in prison. This was decided by the third section of the Court of Appeal of Rome which accepted the request for release presented by Buzzi's lawyers, lawyers Piergerardo Santoro and Alessandro Diddi.

Buzzi, through his lawyers, had requested the revocation or replacement of the detention measure in prison after the Cassation, last October 22, had dropped the Mafia-style criminal association charge. Buzzi was sentenced in second instance to 18 years and 4 months. After the Cassation's decision for the other excellent convict in the Mondo di Mezzo inquiry, the former Nar Massimo Carminati, 41 bis, the regime of hard prison, was revoked.

From Buzzi's lawyers, Piergerardo Santoro and Alessandro Diddi, satisfaction was expressed. "A strange and distorted page of Italian justice was put to an end," they said. "Finally, the actual extent of the alleged facts was acknowledged to Buzzi and therefore today it is right that the incarceration be revoked. Never seen so much preventive prison for corruption offenses."
