With its culinary specialties, its tourist charters, its casinos rich in millions, its colors too and its smiles that overflow the screen, Macau is presented as the inverted mirror of its rebel neighbor: Hong Kong and its millions of demonstrators in black , who for the past six months have been chanting their dislike for local authorities and the central government.

Xi Jinping first visited the old Portuguese counter ten years ago. A "Xuanfeng" visit according to propaganda, literally a "typhoon" visit bringing "happiness, luck and confidence" to this confetti of territory, 30 km2 hanging in the southeast of China.

In 20 years, the capital of slot machines has hit the jackpot: 5.7 billion euros of GDP in 1999, more than 49 billion euros today.

Reinforced controls on social networks

She also accepted all the changes requested by the plan. The law on national security in 2009. Confirmation of pro-Beijing candidates in the elections in 2017. A year later, the anthem and the Chinese flag are incorporated into the basic law. And from December 22, controls will be reinforced on social networks with the entry into force of the law on internet security and the identity associated with the telephone number, just before the progressive implementation of the facial recognition next year.

Unlike in Hong Kong, in Macao the reforms passed like the brush on the rice paper… gently. The embryonic pro-democracy movement was quickly contained. So that at only one hour by ferry, the two territories no longer seem to share the same values today.
